ABSTRACT

Adhatoda vasica is a medicinal plant in use since ancient times. It is a recommended bronchodilator and thus useful in the treatment of asthma. In the present research work, GC/MS analysis of volatile oil isolated from leaves and flowers of A. vasica was carried out. It was found that the volatile oil of leaves was found to be rich in α – salinene (38.66 %) and δ – cadinene (6.90 %), besides, anti-inflammatory principle like stigmasterol (9.54 %) and the glycoside lanost-24-enol-β-D-arabinoside (12.33 %). The essential oil of flowers was found to contain glycosides stearyl glucosyl-2-propanoate (7.79 %), stearyl glucosyl isopropanoate (28.19 %), stearyl galactosyl propanoate (5.19 %) and stearyl galactosyl isopropanoate (5.76 %).
