Formulation And Evaluation Of Transdermal Patch of Carica Papaya

Background: The pharmacological studies shows that Carica papaya possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and wound healing properties. Aim: The present study was designed to extract, formulate and evaluate transdermal patches of Carica papaya. Materials and methods: Transdermal patches were prepared by solvent casting method using HPMC as rate controlling polymer and glycerine as plasticizer. Tween 80 was used as penetration enhancer. It was the evaluated for various characteristics like thickness, folding endurance, weight variation, surface pH, % moisture uptake, % moisture loss and stability studies. Results: The prepared patches showed good folding endurance, hence low chances of patch to break. The thickness, surface pH, weight variation values gave satisfactory results. The % moisture uptake and moisture loss indicated good stability of film. From all evaluation parameters formulation F2 was finalised as optimized patch. Conclusion: The prepared patches showed satisfactory results.
