Influence of Allium Sativum on the Antihyperglycaemic Activity of Gliclazide in Diabetic Rats: An Herb-Drug Interaction Study
by Dr. Amira, 20 Jan 2023

In this research article the selected doses of gliclazide (1 mg/kg) and Allium sativum (104 mg/kg) for interaction were studied in alloxan induced diabetic rats to verify the existence of interaction in diabetic condition. Diabetes was induced by alloxan (100 mg/kg body wt., IP). A dose of 1 mg/kg body wt. of gliclazide and a dose of 104 mg/kg body wt. of Allium sativum produced antihyperglycaemic activity. In combination the Allium sativum significantly enhanced the antihyperglycaemic activity of gliclazide from 2nd to 10th hr except at 4th hr. Hence there is existence of pharmacodynamic interaction between Allium sativum and gliclazide.
